How to Use Your Phone Overseas Without Being Charged - from SimsDirect
Use Wi-Fi. One of the easiest ways to avoid international roaming charges is to connect to Wi-Fi networks. Most hotels, cafes, and restaurants have them.
Note that wifi in hotels ete is not the same as wifi in the street - and is much safer.
2FA Authentication when using different SIM card during international travel
Some financial transactions require 2FA even when travelling overseas and while you may have set it up to send verification code to your iPhone with its local SIM and associated phone number, this will not occur if you have installed a different SIM card for use in international locations.
Hence you need to use an Authenticator app

International SIM cards

Many phones are compatible (can access a list) to activate an eSIM card and so you do not need to purchase an actual SIM card and wait for its delivery before departure to set up and then activate on your arrival at your first destination.
eSIMs apparently automatically arrive in the region that your eSIM covers and so that simplifies the process.
